High-brightness calcium carbonate is the dominant mineral filler and coating pigment in modern paper and board production. Its adoption in alkaline papermaking over the past three decades has transformed both paper quality and machine runnability.

For paper mills sourcing in the MENA region, local supply of consistent-quality GCC represents a significant cost and logistics advantage over imported alternatives.

Coating vs. filling grades

Coating-grade calcium carbonate requires a steep particle size distribution — typically 90% below 2 microns — combined with high brightness (ISO brightness above 95) and very low abrasion (Einlehner below 10 mg/1000 rev). Filling grades tolerate a broader PSD but still demand controlled top-cut and consistent whiteness.

Heliopolis produces both wet-ground and dry-ground calcium carbonate across a range of median particle sizes from D50 1.5 µm to D50 10 µm, supporting both coating and filling applications. Slurry supply (60–70% solids) is available for large-tonnage paper mill customers.
