Gypsum is one of the oldest building materials in continuous use, yet it remains thoroughly modern. Its ability to be calcined, cast, extruded and recycled without significant quality loss makes it uniquely suited to a circular construction economy.

In Egypt, gypsum production is concentrated in the Red Sea and Sinai regions, where high-purity deposits support both domestic construction demand and regional export.

Applications across the construction cycle

Plaster of Paris (hemi-hydrate) is used for interior wall and ceiling plaster, ornamental mouldings and rapid-setting repair mortars. Setting time is controlled through grinding fineness and the addition of retarders or accelerators.

Gypsum board (drywall) is the dominant interior partition and ceiling product in modern commercial construction. Core density, fire resistance rating and moisture resistance are the primary performance parameters for board manufacturers.

Self-levelling floor screeds based on alpha-hemi-hydrate offer high early strength and smooth surfaces for large-area floor applications — a growing segment in Egyptian commercial and residential construction.

Heliopolis supplies gypsum to plaster manufacturers, board producers and ready-mix screed companies, with grade specifications covering purity, setting characteristics and grind.
